Modern Machine Shop Practice First British Edition {c.1880}
A very large (250 x 340 mm) set of two volumes, published around 1880. Written by Joshua Rose, a number of whose smaller books we sold in the past when they were republished by Tom Lindsay, this is a valuable survey of contemporary machine tools and other worshop equipment, together with detailed descriptions of then current techniques.
782 pages, 40 wood-engraved prints and 3077 other wood-engraved drawings, largely in the text. Leather bound covers are somewhat worn and marked, and the joints are tender. Some age marks to text pages, and a few slight tears. The weight of the two books is 7 kgs.
This is a genuinely a very rare set, of great interest to the serious collector of earlier books on machine tools, and how they were used.
