The Giant's Causeway Tramway
A second and updated edition of a book first published in 1964 which told the history of this unusual 3 foot gauge tramway from Portrush, a seaside resort on the north coast of Northern Ireland to Bushmills, and on towards the tourist attraction of the Giant's Causeway.
Opened in January 1883, the line was planned for electric traction, and was a pioneer of this. However it used an open conductor rail, judged unsafer in town and other areas, and steam tram engines were used to start with, and for the freight traffic on the line. Conversion to overhead power took place in 1900, and the service ended in Sptember 1949.
A very interesting account of what was a pioneering electric tramway and its life.
