Lancaster Target
“The classic story of one crew’s flight to survive a full tour of operations in the night skies of wartime Europe, flying Lancaster bombers from RAF Wickenby. Jack Currie chronicles the life and death struggles against flak, night fighters and perilous weather.” Jack Currie was the 22 year old pilot, and leader of a crew who largely came from Commonwealth countries.
Two of my uncles were Lancaster crew, one serving as a navigator and one as a rear gunner. Both survived but until I read this book I had no real conception of what they actually went through.
Not that this is all doom and gloom; it is very well written, very readable and often very humorous. Highly recommended. 189 page paperback with 15 B&W illustrations.
