This selection is  from the original drawings by Wendy McCleave which graced David Curwen's "Old Codger's Cookbook", published in 2013, which added a lot to this wonderful book - still available. click HERE for details of this.

Wendy studied at Farnham College of Art and University College, Falmouth. She works in a variety of mediums, but focuses mainly on acrylics and charcoal.

Her preferred subjects are buildings, structures and abandoned machinery in the landscape, particularly those derelict, abandoned or weathered by time and the elements. She also loves working from still life and life models.

She strives to put a sense of place into her work, something which she captured in these drawings; she never met David Curwen, although she was able to visit his cottage near Devizes, and all the exterior and interior drawings in this selection are of this.

The dimensions given are of the drawing - this is mounted on a larger and stiffer backboard.  The dawings are done in pen & ink, the pen for the basic outline and a variety of browns and light ochre for the rest.
