The author's footplate life started in 1951 when he started at Carlisle's Kingmoor Depot in 1951.

Passing through the ranks he fired and/or drove on LMS & LNER engines on all the routes radiating from Carlisle, over Beattock, Shap and the other heavy gradients.

Highly readable, with a good selection of B&W photographs, plus maps.112 pages.

Conditio is good, although the DJ is slightly discoloured around the top front.
