The Keswick to Borrowdale Bus
By the nature of the area, the Lake District has a number of bus routes, operated by the 'Mountain Goat Company' which go over the high passes and the steepest climbs, but these are specifically buses for the tourists.
Whilst it does little in the way of climbing, the only public, all year round and timetabled service which heads into the hills on a really scenic route is Stagecoach's 'Borrowdale Bus' service No. 78. This runs about 8 miles from Keswick, the major town of the nothern lakes, by a narrow and twisting road along Derwent Water, and up the Borrowdale valley, to end at the village of Seatoller, nestling in the Scafell range to the west.
This pictorial book concentrates on the considerable variety of buses used on this service since the first bus ran in 1921, although it concentrates on those used from the 1950s on. And the scenery gets a bit of a look in as well!
