Caledonian Railway Locomotives - the Formative Years
The first of two volumes covering the history and technical development of the locomotives of the Caledonian Railway, and its constituents - this one covering up to 1882 when George Brittain retired and was succeeded by Dugald Drummond.
For anyone interested in Scottish railways this is a fabulous book, but it should also be read by anyone with an interest in early locomotive development in general; not a subject on which a great deal has been published, and certainly not with this degree of technical detail and analysis.
320 pages. Vast numbers of photographs, drawings, tables etc. Hardbound.
Cannot be recommended highly enough - if possible the second volume is better! See it HERE
