Chris Newman of the Advanced Steam Trust spent many years in China advising on civil engineering projects, often involving coal handling.

As a result he was approached by a consortium proposing to mine coal in Indonesia in a location which was 50 miles or so from a port from which it could be shipped, and proposed to build a railway twixt mine and port and use steam locomotives to power the trains.

Chris was commissioned to prepare a Feasibility Report on the project, notably the locomotive aspect, which was published in 2008 and this forms the bulk of this book. the rest being background information.
