Development of the Locomotive Engine

Written and published in 1907 by Angus Sinclair, a member of American Railway Master Mechanics' Association, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, etc., this is A history of the growth of the locomotive from its most elementary form, showing the gradual steps made toward the developed engine, with biographical sketches of the eminent engineers and inventors who nursed it on its way to the perfected form of today. Many particulars are also given concerning railroad development. There is a decent amount of technical meat here.

Sinclair was in fact born and raised in Scotland, and had served his time on one of the Scottish railways, before emigrating. Whilst this book has an American bias, there is also coverage of developments in Britain and Europe.

CONDITION: text pages are slightly discoloured by age, but the bindings are sound. The leather covered front and back covers are detached, and worn,  the spine cover is attached but worn. These could be restored and affixed by a good bookbinder.
