The Hayle and West Cornwall Railways - Penzance to Truro (1834-1865)
A history of the Hayle Railway was first promised over 60 years ago; it was a key part of Cornwall's railway history, dating from 1834, but has been long regarded as merely a precursor to the West Cornwall and Great Western Railways. When proposed it was mainly intended to take Cornwall's ores to the north coast ports for shipping to South Wales and smelting, but ultimately was to form part of the railway from London to Penzance. Includes a Gazetteer of the remains of the Hayle Railway, illustrated with a considerable number of colour photographs.
A fascinating story, well told in considerable detail, of a short line of considerable importance.
