The Selkirk & Galashiels Railway

£19.95

The Selkirk & Galashiels Railway was one of the many railways which wove a spiders web across the border country between Scotland and England, but unlike most of these lines, it wasn't built by the North British or Caledonian Railways as they vied for territory. Ther Selkirk and Galashiels was first and foremostr a line built by the people of Selkirk, for the people of Selkirk.

Once it was finally open, the 5 mile long railway provided Selkirk's woolen mils with an efficient means to take their produce to the wider world, and its citizens to Galashiels and to far of Edinburgh, even further.

Passenger service lasted for 95 years, and goods service for another 13 years. The history of the line is extremely interesting ad well told here.

216 pages, numerous B& W photos, plus maps. Paperback.
